Developed and refined by the late Bruce Lee, Jun Fan Gung Fu is a well-rounded, comprehensive self-defense martial art. Bruce Lee developed his martial art and philosophy through years of study and application. He was revolutionary in the field of pressure testing techniques and concepts through full out sparring.
Born in San Francisco in 1940, (Lee Jun Fan) Bruce Lee returned to Hong Kong as an infant. While growing up in Hong Kong, Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun from Ip Man. He also learned Boxing in High School and won the Hong Kong High School Boxing Championship. Bruce Lee eventually moved back to the United States settling in Seattle, Oakland and later Los Angeles. During these years he educated himself in many fighting styles including Fencing, Northern and Southern styles of Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Savate, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu. Bruce Lee was also formally educated in Philosophy at the University of Washington in Seattle. This was the foundation from which Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do evolved.
Jeet Kune Do introduces the four ranges of combat: kicking range, punching, trapping range and the grappling range (clinching and wrestling). Jun Fan/JKD stresses basic footwork, economy of motion, interception (simultaneous counters) and modern self – defense. Some of the core concepts include distance, timing, rhythm and simple direct attack. Philosophical concepts of "no way as way' and 'no limitation as limitation" are unique to Jeet Kune Do and it specifically separates JKD from classical martial arts systems.
Students will come away with increased self-confidence, fitness, flexibility and athletic abilities.
